l ptovm Waterloo boasts many buildings of historical significance. labatt's Kuntz House is one. The story of this particular building began in 1866 when David Kuntz immigrated to Canada. He was a brewer as well as a barrel and brick maker. It was David Kuntz who made the bricks for the first brewery - and they still remain in good condition in the surviving sections of the original building. Labatt's purchased the Carling Brewery, originally the Kuntz, in 1977. The company renovated the Kuntz homestead in 1978 in tribute to the Kuntz family's contribution to the growth and progress of Waterloo and to the brewing industry in Ontario. Uptown Waterloo features other homes and places of business of historical significance.
