Back then: it was known as the Board of Trade, but it still represented business people in the community. °; e , Since April 1988, a group of Waterloo voluntears has been planning this celebration. Some of the highlights will include: } ODThe release of a book celebrating the last hundred years of business development in Waterâ€" too. The author is Dr. Ken McLaughlin, a historian at University of Waterioo. See page B10 for an extract from the ‘‘Waterioo: An llustrated History.‘‘ CAn August ‘‘Party in the Park‘‘ to celebrate the centenniat of Waterloo Park. ‘‘The first thing the Board of Trade did was get the city to make a park,"‘ said Dave Sandrock, who chairs the chamber centennial committee. ‘‘We‘re just going to have a lot of ftun and games. Some will be games they played in early days and some we play now.‘‘ OThe Buskers will be brought back for 10 days in midâ€"August. A group of globetrotting ‘‘free spirits‘‘, these magicians, jugglers, mimes and other perforâ€" mers dropped in for a few days this past September. ‘‘They were well received by everybody, so we decided to make them our gift to the city."‘ OThe chamber‘s annual general meeting will be held next April 22 at The Seagram Museum. Though details have not yet been finalized, Sandrock says participants will be asked to wear historic costumes. The yearâ€"long birthday party is ‘‘an opportunity to share with the community some of the things we have done,‘‘ says Sandrock.
