Wilfrid Laurier University in Waâ€" terloo will host an international symâ€" posium on export promotion and public organizations Oct. 16 to 18. The symposium will focus on the role of government and other 0: Jniâ€" zations, such as industry associat ns and chambers of commerce, in export Chairman Dr. Rolf Seringhaus, a professor in Laurier‘s school of busiâ€" ness and economics, said government actively working to stimulate busiâ€" nesses to export as trade barriers around the world lessen. "The global trade environment is increasingly intensifying. Everyone needs to compete internationally," he said. "And companies need help to strengthen their knowledge and exâ€" pertise in international marketing. "Even a domestic market is no longer just domestic â€" the local company faces international competiâ€" tion at home," he said. The event will feature a panel discussion Oct. 18 on export promoâ€" tion in the changing trade environâ€" ment. It will start at 9 a.m. in the Paul Martin Centre on campus. Other topics to be considered inâ€" clude the use of international trade fairs; changing small firms‘ attitudes to exporting; public support for export consortia; the integration of industry, government and education; the lack of international regulations governing electronic data; export credit proâ€" grams in the United States; trade barriers between Canada and Latin America; and the role of export proâ€" motion organizations in developing countries.
