S. Bach. The concert, part of the Philharmonic‘s 66th season, will take place at 7 p.m. April 1 at Centre In The Square, Kitchener. For this important musical event, the 120â€" voice Philharmonic Choir will be joined by the 40â€"voice Philharmonic Youth Choir as well as the recentlyâ€"formed 45â€"voice Philharmonic Juâ€" nior Choir. Orchestral accompaniment will be by the KW Symphony. Howard Dyck, conducâ€" tor and music director of the Philharmonic Choir, will be on the podium to lead the combined forces of some 250 singers and instrumentalists. Headlining an internationally acclaimed solo roster is tenor David Gordon. Gordon has earned a reputation as one of the finest Bach singers in North America. Described by the Washington Post as "an irresistible performâ€" er," Gordon is renowned for his consummate interpretation of the demanding role of Narraâ€" tor or Evangelist in the Bach Passions. He has appeared at leading Bach Festivals such as Stuttgart, Germany and Bethlehem, Pennsylâ€" vania. Composed in 1729 for the Good Friday service at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig, Germany, St. Matthew Passion is recognized today as one of the greatest musical masterpieces of all time. It recalls the gripping events of the betrayal, capture, trial and death of Christ, as related in the Gospel of Matthew.
