BRAKES BRAKES BRAKES BRAKES BRAKES BRAKES BRAKES BRAKES Intercounty Leatfts celebrate 20th season According to City of Waterloo statistics prepared for the Chronicle this week, boys‘ baseball was the most popular option at a twoâ€"day minor sports spring registration at Conestoga Mall recently. As of March 5, 1,120 boys were registered, up 55 from last season. Boys‘ soccer dropped from 950 particiâ€" pants in 1987 to 820 this year. Minor boys‘ baseball and girls‘ softball continue to enjoy steady growth in the City of Waterloo while interest in boys‘ soccer and fastball appears to we waning. â€" ‘"‘There were 125 late soccer last season. Based about equal," said Cit supervisor Tom Litwiller ‘"‘There were 125 late i tions for minor soccer last season. Based , we should stay about equal," said Ci ‘_ Waterloo program supervisor Tom Litwiller N interview. Late registration application forms are available at the Waterloo Community Services Offices, 3rd floor in the City Centre. Late registrations â€" which will be charged an additional $10 â€" will be forwarded to the various groups for consideration on a first come, first serve basis. Other Kitchenerâ€"Waterloo sports, which include lacrosse, track and field, judo and field hockey, registered approximately 280 children in total. Girls‘ softball had 590 registrations, up 40 from last season, while boys‘ fastball went down 40 to 90. Girls‘ soccer went from 190 to 200. Solid turnout for Waterloo minor sports registration With that kind of choice, it‘s hard to believe that you‘d select cheap linings just for the sake of a few bucks. Even so, some installers do exactly that. No conscience. Not us. We figure our reputation is on the line as well as our customer‘s safety. That‘s why we always install Abex friction material. It‘s the only one we know that meets the standard you deserve. It‘s in your hands. Twenty employees of the city and 50 volunteers handled the computerâ€" ized registration forms. "It was a very smooth process," said Litwiller. Not so smooth are the proposed schedules that will include Saturday games during the regular seasons for all gports. The move to Saturday was prompted by theâ€".city‘s lack of playing facilities. "In the past we‘ve tried to run house leagues on a Monday tb Thursday operation with Saturday serving as a rain day. For the first time this year there will be extensively scheduled Saturday games," said Litwiller. ‘"They system is really starting to tell us someâ€" thing. With minor sports growing like they are its put a pressure on the availability of fields for adult groups who want to go out and play a pickâ€"up game. We don‘t have a lot of times available for that kind of use anymore." Litwiller feels the decline in soccer registration may be attributed to the additional $10 surcharge added this season to cover the costs of uniforms. Parents were asked to cough up uniform money last season after they had paid the seasonal fee. Minor athletes take to the fields in about six weeks time. ERB‘S GARAGE 95 REGINA ST.
