DISC Get Rhythm except for Richard Thompson, there isn‘t a contemporary guitarist who breathes as much life into the instrument. Ross MacDonald Chronicle Special Cooder is essentially a crack session guitarâ€" ist, but Get Rhythm is further proof he is equally comfortable with either the white blues approach of Keith Richard or the more exquisâ€" ite stylings of say, Leo Kottke. And only because of his extensive guitar vocabulary can Cooder do yet another cover of Elvis‘ "All Shook Up" and make it one of the most rousing versions to date. Cooder‘s name is a trusted one in the business, and if his name is on a record, it‘s usually a good one. So for anyone who missed him the first time around, this is a good place to jump in. Get Rhythm is Ry Cooder‘s best record since 1974‘s Paradise and Lunch and it confirms that For The Country Dumptruck Bigtime/Polygram This is the third album (first domestic) from a Boston band that gets better with every outing. Filing this under the guitarâ€"rock category would shortchange its many merits. What sets dumptruck apart from the dozens of bands pillaging the Byrds‘ legacy is the intelligence and craftsmanship of the songs and judicious use of tempo. And every track is a delight, thanks to the many twist and turns the music takes. For the country is a great record from an innovative band. Game Theory Enigma/Capitol If director Martin Scorcese was to make the History of California Pop, Lolita Nation would be a fitting soundtrack. Game Theory have cultivated the fertile West Coast pop scene and come up with an ambitious, wildly offâ€"beat double record. Alternately melodic and discorâ€" dant, disarming and disturbing, it touches on numerous influences and pop categories. I even imagined I heard hints of Love and Moby Grape. Like most excellent double albums, Lolita Nation probably would have been an even better single. However, such a moot point distracts from the album‘s magnitude and complexity. It is quite simply a major pop development, its bizarre approach to music unheard of since Captain Beefheart stopped making records. . Various Artists The Big Easy: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Antilles/Island While there seems to be no consensus whether or not The Big Easy is a great movie â€" some say it‘s yet another example of a misâ€" guided attempt by Hollywood to stray into unfamiliar territory â€" there is no denying that the soundtrack is firstâ€"rate. It essentially showcases New Orleans‘ ryhthm and blues and its regional offshoots such as Cajun and zydeco. The mix is thorough and colorful, including R&B great Professor Longhair, current zydeco King Buckwheat Zydeco, and contemporary New Orleans R&B artists The Neville Brothers and The Wild Tchoupitousas. Some significant R&B pioneers are missing, but the Big Easy is a considerable overview of how the New Orleans sound has evolved. r C C Eig X A HOTEL 4 T 3t WATTERLL Ti o T4. 7 Â¥_4 p< RIB EYE STEAK BABY BEEF LIVER with onions or bacon KITCHENER Queen & Charles 744â€"6327 Above dinners include soup or juice, salad, dessert, roll & butter.
