PAGE " - WATERLCD m. WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY m. I†1 he Waterloo Regional Heritage Foundation supports the work of the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committees (L.A.C.A.C.) within the Region. The primary task of each L.A.CA.C. is to recommend properties of historical and architectural pignirscance for heritage designation by the local municipal council. To date, 140 properties have received such recognition: 86 in Cambridge; 38 in Kitchener; 20 in Waterloo; 4 in Wellesley Township; 5 in Wilmot Township and 7 in North Dumfries. In addition, 2 Heritage Conservation Districts have been recognized: I in Kitchener, the village of Upper Doon; and 1 in Cambridge. Each property is recognized with a bronze plaque; one-half of the cost of the plaque is funded by the Foundation. W Heritage act, tt I .Iceunï¬Ã©gggm Incorporated as a non-profit organization, the Waterloo Regional Heritage _ Foundation was created by the Regional Municipality of Waterloo in 1974 to encourage and promote interest in the preservation of our heritage and culture. It is made up of representatives from the many groups in the area interested in heritage and history and of appointed members at large from the community. The Foundation maintains a strong advocacy position, not only in the preservation of heritage buildings, but in the idea of heritage itself - research, publication. education, and promotion.
