PAGE 32 â€" WATERLOO CHRONICLE, WEDNESDAY JANUARY 27, 1988 Mark Bryson Chronicle Staff University of Waterloo Warriors‘ hockey coach Don McKee has been pulling his hair out since Dave Fennell broke his arm earlier this season. The problen wasn‘t so much the loss of Fennell â€" although McKee would obviously like to have him in the lineup â€" but rather finding someone to replace him on a line with Steve Linseman and Chris Glover. McKee finally found the answer this weekend by placing rugged winger Dan Tsandelis on the line. All Tsandelis did in return was score four goals in an 8â€"1 win over Toronto. On Sunday, Warriors downed Ryerson Rams 7â€"3. Warriors‘ other sniper on the weekend was Jamie Maki, who scored five goals in the two games. Maki has just joined the team and is playing between John Goodman and John Dietrich. In other Ontario Universities Athletic Association action, Wilfrid Laurier Uni\{é%aity Golden Hawks dropped a close 54 decision to Central division leading York Yeomen. Warriors and Hawks skated to a 2â€"2 tie earlier in the week as Hawks‘ goaltender Chris Luscombe played his best game of the season. WLU is currently in fifth place, two points behind Toronto Blues who hold down the final playoff spot. The two teams will meet twice before the season ends, including the final game of the year in Toronto. ‘"He (Tsandelis) had a simply outstanding perforâ€" mance on the weekend," said McKee of the former Kitchener Ranger B. â€" o o ‘"We had goaltending problems earlier on, but because of the way he‘s played lately, Luscombe will be the guy I go with," said Hawks coach Wayne Gowing. Both McKee and Gowing are optimistic as their respective teams wind down the regular season, but with eight games remaining for both teams, Laurier is certainly in control of its own destiny while UW must get some help from others. ‘"We will determine whether we advance (to the playoffs)," said Gowing. "And it should be interestâ€" ing because they (Toronto) are very similar to us in both style and skill." The thirdâ€"place Warriors will need help from other teams if they are to overtake secondâ€"place Western Mustangs. The two teams do not meet each other again. "(Firstâ€"place) York has to play Western two times before the end of the year so who knows," said McKee. "The way Western is playing right now. they may even win both of them and challenge York for top spot." f $ f f E oi t $ B / ; _i "C # . o im ennnsimmmmatind i mm J â€" Eo oliiie,. . adecediie n uen nmmmmmnmmmenes omcs on mm ow on e . coge _ /4 < / 4 M ooo e oo P f o PB . 4 .« es VWhen moving trucks. cranes, equipment . f _ * antennas, ladgders. scaffolds, eavestroughs P/ ‘ 4 and brancheg. or anything eise, be absol! that they do not touch or even come close t« ' it they do you and others standing nearby C ‘ Mata.Ara en rino alontmral eharnk Hawks and Warriors in the running for playoffs Note: Are you using electncal shock resistant tootwear? Warriors are currently 10â€"5â€"3, while WLU sits at 7â€"8â€"3. Against York, Maki and Glover had two apiece while Scott Dick, Clint Ellicott and Steve Balas had singles. Scott McCulloch scored twice and Greg Puhalski and Bobby Dean got one apiece for Laurier in the loss to York. In the UW win over Toronto, Tsandelis had four, Maki three and Glover one.
