Poses our selection White and Block Backgrounds Music from around the world is the theme for the Kitchenerâ€"Waterloo Symphony Youth Orchestra‘s Christmas concert Dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m. â€" o It will be a concert of contrasts and variety. At one end of the spectrum will be the debut performance of the rambuncâ€" tious Mexicano Brasses, a trio of trumpeters from the Kitchenerâ€"Waterloo Symphony, John Tickner, Dan Warren and Anita McAlister. Providing contrast to the Mexicano Brasses will be Japanese music played by Yoshimi Oyama on a traditional Japanese stringed instrument called a koto. Her performance includes a duet with Youth Orchestra member Miya Belair on violin. The Youth Orchestra will also be performing an interesting work by French composer Saintâ€"Saens called Carnival of the Animals. This is a piece very much loved by both children and adults. While SaintSaens was alive the piece was only played twice, and even then only to friends, because he didn‘t want to be known as anything but a "serious" composer. He wrote this piece as a joke. In his will, Saintâ€"Saens stipulated that the Carnival of the Animals could be released. Also in the program will be Fantasia on "Greensleeves" by British composer Vaughanâ€"Williams and A Christmas Festival by American composer Leroy Anderson. This special Christmas concert by the Youth Orchestra will be a fun concert, one that would make a great family outing for the Christmas season.
