Big honor for BCI teacher A majority of business execuâ€" tives in Kitchenerâ€"Waterloo and Cambridge are in favor of a free trade agreement with the United States â€" with executives of the larger companies most in favor. Those were among the findings of the annual business survey made in November by the Laurier Institute for Business and Eco nomic Studies of 200 manufacturâ€" Art Prudham, department head of science at Bluevale collegiate, recently received the 1987 Teachâ€" ing Award from the Scientific Research Society, Guelph Chapâ€" ter of Sigma Xi. The award is presented to a high school mathematics or sciâ€" ence teacher who has shown an outstanding dedication to teachâ€" ing in these fields and consists of a Certificate of Recognition and a year‘s subscription to American Scientist magazine. Large company execs bullish on free trade . The survey, conducted by the institute at Wilfrid Laurier Uniâ€" versity, showed that among exâ€" ecutives that had made up their ing firms in the Region, and just mind, 62 per cent were in favor and 38 were opposed to free trade. When the unsure category was included, the survey indicated that 38 per cent of firms surveyed Art Prudham Thirtyâ€"three per cent of small firms were in favor, 27 per cent opposed, and 39 per cent unsure. For midâ€"sized firms, those figures were 30 per cent in favor, 30 per cent Commented Dr. J. C cent were opposed, and 39 per cent were unsure. The largest firms in the Region were the most positive. Fortyâ€" nine per cent of them said they favored the trade initiative. Only 13 per cent were opposed. But a Murray said it is the mediumâ€" sized companies with sales from one to 10 million dollars who see the agreement in a negative light. Many of their executives feel the matter is too much ‘up in the air‘ for them to make intelliâ€" gent assessment of the issues."
