Well here are a couple of hints. The larjorie in question was employed by the Town of Water- loo long before her famous namesake had ever heard of coal tar. She has worked at four different offices during her mu- nicipal service and still re- members the period when the Waterloo Police Department was serviced by one motorcycle! Give up? The office itself, located where the Marsland Centre now stands, had several oddities. Equipped with but one telephone, an adding machine and a handgun, it was located on top of the police sta- tion. Marjorie Lenz will retire from Waterloo City Hall at the and of the month. - Brrooo photo “The city has certainly changed but its been gradual. The major difference between now and then is the amount of employees. At one time you knew everyone. now you don't," she said. But according to Commission- er of Finance Tom Stockie. virtually everyone knows Lenz. The Town has subsequently become the City and the Town Hall has been replaced by Water- loo Town Square. Marsiand Cen. tre and Waterloo City Centre, but the one thing that remains con- stant is Marjorie Lenz. "She's a great lady, a wonder- ful person. She's worked very hard to keep up with the times and hasn't slowed down one bit. I know it's cliche, but she's like a good wine that keeps on getting better with age," said Stockie, who has worked with Lenz for the past 15 years. Waterloo city staff will get their chance' to honor the veteran employee at a retirement party planned for Sept. 29 at the Adult Recreation Centre. Lenz was actually eligible for retirement earlier this year, but stuck it out to Sept. 30 to get "a taste of the new city hall."
