The Kâ€"W group joins nine other cities in Ontario and most of the major urban centres in Canada which will be staging similar releases at the same time. "Ours is a really safe community. We have one of the lowest (numbers of missing children) in Ontario...it‘s one of the safest communities in Ontario and Canada. We have to work to keep it that way," said Patti Brooks, public relations director for the Kâ€"W Chapter of Child Find (Ont.) Inc."There‘s a lot of negativity involved with this. Sometimes you get people who call and say don‘t you overâ€"emphasize the problem. But with 5,000 children missing you can‘t overâ€"emphasize this." It is estimated that there are between 3,000 and 5,000 children missing in Canada. â€" o â€" o The Kâ€"W chapter of Child Find has been operating for three years. Since its inception it has grown to include more than 60 volunteers, whose main objective is to raise awareness of the situation through public speaking and help streetproof the community by running the Kid Check child fingerprinting program and other programs. The local group also raises funds for the Ontario office, which operates the association‘s child recovery program. _ Local National Missing Children‘s Day activities begin at 12: 30 and will all be held in Waterloo Park near the bandshell.
