This was decided ay night when ROW held a close meeting. When put to a vote, members decided by a count of 74â€"65 to retain the services of The same vote also expressed nonâ€"confidence in former ROW president Kevin Higgins and his board of directors and when they stepped down 12 others were named to a "caretaker‘‘ board that will oversee club operations for the time being. Higgins and his board had asked for Bruce‘s resignation back in April and this became an issue that divided the club when some parents and senior swimmers came to Bruce‘s defence. At the meeting, members were given the opportunity to speak before the vote. But 55 votes were already in by proxy because Bruce‘s supporters had lobbied for him. Bruce‘s critics said he had fallen down in his administrative duties and was not a strict enough disciplinarian but his supporters said he hadn‘t been given a fair chance after taking over from Cliff Barry in September. S., KITCHENER F4 Higgins estimated that perhaps 80 per cent of the proxy votes went Bruce‘s way. _ O "It is my opinion that those who came to the meeting undecided voted in favor of the old board after hearing all the presentations,"‘ said Higgins, "but the important thing is the kids are still in the water and still swimming." Philosophical differences had polarised Bruce and the assistant coaches who used to work with Barry. Age group coach Dean Boles has not always seen eyeâ€"toâ€"eye with Bruce but he has decided to stay on for his swimmers and take a waitâ€"andâ€"see attitude at least until the end of July. Those named to the caretaker board include Harry Gardiner, Jim Brown, Ron Forrest, Soren Skafte, Hanna Nedelko and Ron Miller. Bruce heard the results by telephone in Vanâ€" couver where he took three swimmers for the Esso International meet. He leaves for a meet in Edmonton this weekend. Bruce said it‘s time for the club to reâ€"evaluate in terms of philosophy and in terms of the kind of program offered. o â€" _ "I think it‘s an opportunity for us to get down to business," said Bruce. "The last month has not been a productive one for us." _ _ e The list continues: Gary Wagner, Barry Lyon, Ethel Clair, Phyllis Selberg, George Priddle and Steve Quantz. +KFHF |R e No disrobing e No sweating e No lifting e No tiring exercise e No calisthenics e No waiting eeomaiiinenge t plzmr «o thiier ns
