Val Lingard got off to a good start with Bluevale collegiate Knights‘ track and field team as she broke one of the school‘s records Saturday at the Forest City Prep Meet at University of Western Ontario in London. Lingard‘s recordâ€"setter came in the midget girls 400 metre race which she won in 1: 03.9. Another BCI recordâ€"setter was Lisa Kueneman. She broke her Robyn Jalbert of the Kâ€"W Gymnastics Club won the Ontario championship in the top level of competition â€"â€" the senior ‘A‘ category â€"â€" over the weekend at York Universiâ€" ty. â€" â€" _ â€" â€" s â€" _The 17â€"yearâ€"old Waterloo collegiate student placed first in floor exercise, scoring 9.25, and her 9.2 on the uneven bars tied her for first place in that event with another competiâ€" She placed second on the balance beam at 9.25 and her 8.8 on vault was good for sixth place. Kathy Hanish of Brampton placed second. Bluevale record falls *# to Knights‘ Lingard Jalbert best in province own school record in the senior girls 100, winning in 11.8 seconds. She also won the 400 hurdles in 1:03.5. Gloria Kiefer also recorded a win for Knights. She placed first in the long jump, spanning 4.60 metres against a very strong head wind. At this meet, athletes are also given gold, silver and bronze if certain standards are achieved. and Chris Wood did likewise while placing second in the 400 hurdles in 56.5.. > Lingard took two silver stanâ€" dard awards, one for her BCI recordâ€"setting run and the other for running the 200 in 27.3. Kiefer took silver standard awards in the 100 (12.9) and 200 (27.2). Steve Chapeskie and Greg Campbell also collected two silver standards each for Knights in junior boys events. Chapesâ€" kie‘s came in the 100 (11.6) and 200 (23.9) and Campbell‘s were in the 200 (23.7) and 400 (53.9). Single silver awards went to Sujeeth Syed and Wood in senior competition as well as juniors Steph Laurence, Dave Keller, standard in both events she won Sheldon Gilchrist were double bronze award winners along with Tina Menyes, a junior. Syed, McCormick, Bater and Dave Chapeskie won single bronze awards.
