An intriguing twoâ€"man show opens Thursday at Carmichae} Gallery, featuring 45 new paintings by young Canadian artists Paul Kekish and Paul Bowâ€" man. Both artists are graduates of the UW Fine Arts program . Kekish has been showing for several years now and has quickly risen to a position of being considered one of the area‘s most fascinating artists. His education combined English and Fine Arts with the result being a strong literary reference surfacing in his paintings. His mixed media work is predominantly figuraâ€" tive but uses a wide variety of objects, often symbolically, in his compositions. His interest in the 20th century masters, especially Picasso and Kiee, is reflected in his work and especially in his color choice. The paintings in this show are lively, colorful pieces reflecting a positive outlook and a maturing style. Bowman is a recent graduate and this is his first major show. He works in watercolor using soft washes. His work has been described as abstract landscapes. The artist feels that mystery is the greatest element in any work of art and aims to capture the ‘"soul‘"‘ of the landscape rather than the exact physical realities of the land. In this, he feels that every time an artist completes a work, he is himself on display. His subtle, calm pictures contrast sharply to Kekish‘s more expressionistic, emotional style. The show, which opens Thursday from 7â€"9 p.m. at 14 King St. N., will continue for two weeks. Twoâ€"man art show at Carmichael Gallery Three matching gemstones.
