While the local golfers are recovering from the winter blues "down under," the Canadian amateur team was defending its world title in the month of March. This year the Canada Foursome was runner up to Australia but Jack Kaye was low medalist. The Waitikiri course in Christâ€" church, N.Z., was the host club. It is 6,000 metres, par 71. I enjoyed playing it in February. The terrain is moderately level. There are no water holes (except 17) and it has many doglegs and bunkers. Father Ronald Voisin is the Pastor and he is a local boy, born in St. Clements. Father Ron says that his family then moved to Hamiiton when he was a child. His favorite hobby is gardening and this is reflected in the lovely flower beds seen around the church. His young assistant is Father Charlie Jordan, who is popular with the young folk and enjoys a game of golf on his free day. With Easter upon us again, all the Waterloo churches have been packed to the doors with the annual religious services. One of the largest in the city, St. Michael‘s Parish is preparing for its 25th anniversary in September. It is not your average congregation as it sits between two Universiâ€" ties and hundreds of students are seen weekly attending services there. Lawyer David Whitfield says the new buzz word in legal circles is the Family Law Act. David was telling the Waterloo retired businessmen that since 1978, this new Act can have a profound influence on your last Legal Will. It seems that under certain circumstances now, your spouse and relatives might have a greater say in the disposal of your property. In the same vein, I came across a magazine article the other day that indicates Corporations are now concerned about the Family Law Act as it can indirectly affect the shares of the company. Because of the Family Law Act, Whitfield indicates that a "Marriage Contract" has taken on far more importance in order to protect all concerned. Further to this, another shocking statistic is that 70 per cent of Canadians have not made a will. So sit down immediately and write one. fa SEASON! He was listening to the tape in the car with Torty Levin and Jerry Marotta (Peter Gabrielâ€"drums), and thought my songs were great. The band liked them too. Tickle asked if I‘d like to use them on my album. I was amazed but of course agreed. That started the success of the last record. (Strange Animal)." e The band on the record: "Well, because of the success of my last record, I got a chance to work with some of the best musicians in the world. Tony Levin again plays bass, Nigel Olson (Elton John) plays guitar, Will Lee (David Lettermanâ€"Paul Shaffer‘s band) also on bass, and Gene Black (Rod Stewart, Berlin) who I felt had a good feel for my music.‘" Gifted Gowan e The band for the tour: "It‘s the same band as last time, except I‘ve added new guitarist Steve Shelski, with Terry Gowan, bass (his brother), Phil Michael, drums and Peter Nunn, keyboards. The virus lives on. Gowan is currently enjoying success with chartâ€"climber Moonlight Desires. He chatted about his rising star status and the Great Dirty Tour during a recent media blitz. Area bar regulars will remember Larry Gowan as the heart of barâ€"band Rhinegold, a striking centreâ€"stage icon, which simulated Genesis, Yes, and the ethereal music stanza of the 70‘s, while adding several song comments of their own. Rhinegold shaped its frontman‘s performance destiny, giving him sharp chops and the confidence to tackle a solo career in the great dirty world as simply . . .Gowan. He plays Centre in the Square April 26, in support of his latest album Great Dirty World. The gifted pianist, feeding a urgent appetite for progressive rock and individual growth, successfully fused his knowledge of the masters with modern rhythms and strategy, as he continued his personal music odyssey. Originally from Scotland, this spry Glasgow lad emigrated to Canada, eventually enrolling in the prestigious Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, graduating with an A.R.T.C. in classical music performance. Canada‘s Larry Gowan contacted the virus of live performance many gigs ago and isn‘t looking too hard for the cure. Coral Andrews Chronicle Special He‘s caught the ‘live performance bug â€" and boy, what a way to go e The Jon Anderson Link: (Jon Anderson of legendary 70‘s progressive rock mainstays Yes, does cameo harmony on videoâ€"single Moonlight Desires.) "In a way, I‘ve been singing with Jon Anderson for years and I‘ve always loved his music. It‘s a great vocal match, a good blend. I simply spoke with Jon and told him my idea, that I wanted to shoot a video in the Aztec Pyramid Mexico. There‘s one pyramid called Pyramid of the Moon, but it‘s only an indirect reference to the song. I said, what do you think. He said, ‘"What do I have to do. I‘li be there."‘ I couldn‘t believe it. The video was shot by (Continued on page 26) e About the British treatment of his music: ‘‘*British treatment is basically ignoring the soâ€"called rules of music. The music takes on its own life. It‘s not so . . . formulated. You don‘t expect the chorus to chime in at exactly 20 seconds. I think the vocals are more the centrepiece, with a bit heavier concentration on the melody line."‘ Gowan 4 885â€"4280
