The Kitchenerâ€"Waterloo Philâ€" harmonic Choir, now in its 65th season, presents Requiem by Mozart and Magnificat by J.S. Bach Saturday, Feb. 28, 8 p.m., at Kitchener‘s Centre In The Requiem, Magnificat at Weaknesses hurt Centre in the Square _ daring Trickster Waterioo Kathleen Brett (Soprano), Marâ€" garet Kuh! (Mezzoâ€"Soprano), Dennis Giesbrecht (Tenor) and Daniel Lichti (Baritone). Also joining the Choir will be the new Philharmonic Youth Choir, which made its debut at The Centre in December. Magnificat by J.S. Bach is one of his great choral achievements. A setting of Mary‘s Song of Exultation (Luke 1:46â€"55), this work is full of joy and hope; bristling with the buoyant rhythms and orchestrations that ‘have made Bach a beloved comâ€" poser. Of particular interest in this performance is the fact that four interpolations, normally added during Christmas presenâ€" tations of the Magnificat, will be included; these will be sung by the Philharmonic Youth Choir and two of the soloists. Ever since the appearâ€" ance of the awardâ€"winning Amaâ€" deus, the music of Mozart has gained in popularity. Composed at the very end of Mozart‘s life, this work is regarded as one of his greatest achievements. The legends surrounding the work have added somewhat to the mystique, if very little to the real understanding of the music. There is the story of the mysteriâ€" ous ‘man in grey‘ who appeared in Mozart‘s doorstep with a sponsor. We now know that the commissioner was in fact the musicâ€"loving Austrian nobleâ€" man, Count Franz Walseggâ€"Stupâ€" pach; it was he who requested that Mozart write a Requiem in memory of the Count‘s deceased wife. As fate would have it, Mozart had not finished the work when he died on December 5, 1791. The manuscript contains the first 10 movements, mostly in sketchy and incomplete form. After Mozart‘s death, his widow Constanze turned to one of his pupils, Franz Xaver Sussâ€" mayer, with a request to finish the writing so that she might rulk se cd4CY I [** * Umbraila Chicken CNOMNLY * tong 800 Sparenae ONLY 885â€"0080 PICKUP 16.99 fulfil the commission, and, more importantly, collect the fee!
