PAGE 14 â€" WATERLOO Chronicle Staff Waterioo‘s future recreational, leisure and cultural needs will be the topic at two important public meetings slated for next week. The open houses, next Tuesday at Albert McCormick Arena and Thursday at the Adult Recreation Centre, will provide Waterioo residents with their first opportunity to tell Londonâ€"based consultant Jean Monteith and Associates about problem areas that should be addressed while preparing a parks and recreation master plan. The consultants were hired by Waterioo council in January to prepare by October a plan addressing the city‘s recreational, cultural, parks and leisure needs. The work will be done for a cost of $47,000 and will focus on Waterloo‘s physical facility and program needs now and for the next 10 vears. ‘‘*Public opinion is very important at this stage," said Monteith from her London office. ‘"‘We want people to express their opinions whether they be good or bad." The afternoon sessions or ‘"open house‘‘ portion of the identical meetings will be a "very informal" process where residents view maps and slide presentations and then tell the consultants what MODEL DPGOS * 3 beam laser * Double over sampling * Multiâ€"status display COMPACT DISC PLAYER HURRY IN FOR BEST SELECTION! l- ; ELECTROHOME ~Public input invited staniey s . for culture/recreation â€" [$SUa{t4LHIVF master plan analysis !pgepp "*= ELECTROHOME ELECTROHOME BETTY GIBSON GIBSON TV $209995 HAS THE BEST SELECTION! They will both run from 2 to 6 p.m. The evening "public meeting" at 7: 30 p.m. will delve more into the specifics of what the master plan is all about. Monteith has already met with several local ‘"‘interest groups‘"‘ but as of yet no trends have developed, she said. Following the public meeting, 5,350 questionâ€" naires will be mailed to a random sample of 25 per cent of the households in Waterioo. A postageâ€"paid return evelope will be provided by the consultant to increase the number of returns. All those homeowners to receive a questionnaire, will first receive a phone call encouraging their participation. A Ministry of Tourism and Recreation grant will cover the first $25,000 of the consultant‘s bill. Monteith and associates have already carried out similar plans for Woodstock, Durham and district, the Town of Whitby, Milverton and a host of others. Although Monteith says a response of 11 to 12 per cent is acceptable, she is hoping this particular study will garner a 30 per cent response rate. 3 YEAR PARTS & LABOUR WARRANTY 3 YEARS PARTS & LABOUR WARRANTY STV GIBSON 1987 model with H.Q.
