Hah! Something Wild, now at the Hyland is something weird. Why would Jeff Daniels, who was so funny in the Purple Rose of Cairo as Mia Farrow‘s ‘ficâ€" tional‘ love interest, do a film that is so meaningless? As Charâ€" lie Briggs, a company VP (just promoted) poor Daniels does what he can with a mundane script. He‘s a closet rebel sitting in a New York greasy spoon who one fateful day dines and dashes right into "Lulu‘" or "Audrey‘" or whatever her name happens to be on a given day of the week. Played by Melanie Griffith, Lulu is irritating and highly o ja e % o hath. he t % l 3 doow wl h tmtelet % j Pas 4 i V e L. SQUARE 101 QUEEN STREET NORTH KITCHENER VISA . MAGTERCARO . Griffith does what she can with this brutal character, and is passable, but deserves much better scripts. Lulu wears enough jewellery to start her own chain of stores (she even has handcuffs! ). Charlie (of course, the plot has to go someâ€" where) becomes infatuated and throws his office job to the wind at least for the weekend. The script‘s a bore. It‘s Charlie this, Charlie that. And it‘s hard to tell who‘s fooling who in this flick. But the viewer ends up the fool for paying to see it all. Something Wild is perfect for Superchanne} late night 3: 00 a.m. fare. But then she discovers husband Ray, the Jailbird, has busted loose. Something Wild continues to a ultraâ€"violent menage & trois beâ€" tween Charlie, Ray and Lulu, displayed in the graphic overâ€" tones of Blood Simple or Psycho only because the action proâ€" gresses to the bathroom, with lots of water for that desired bloodâ€"laden effect. The three all turn out to be excellent ‘good liars.‘ So is direcâ€" tor Demme if he really thinks this is good entertainment.
