At that time, council decided an annual spending of $15,816. was not warranted since Waterloo had never incurred a cliam for environmental liabiliâ€" ty. By a 7â€"1 vote Monday night, city council decided to writeâ€"off $10,544 as an overexpenditure in its 1986 insurance budget and enter into the policy for the period Oct. 1, 1986 to May 31, 1987. Council also authorized city treasurer Tom Stockie to discuss and promote with other treasurers in the region, the possibility of creating an insurance reciprocal to cover environmental liability inâ€" surance. The purchase is directly related to recent coalâ€"tar findings at the C.N. Regina Street development of the Waterloo City Centre. Since the discovery,Stockie says he has learned a great deal with respect to potential liability hazards and potential liability claims, particularly pertaining to the environment. Ald.
