Chronicle Staff United Way's 1986 fund-raising drive has achieved the $250,000 mark-right where organizers want to be at this stage of the campaign. "It's too early to suite a trend but we're off to a good start," said United Way director John Thompson. The $250,000 figure marks an eight per-cent improvement over the same period last year. By the time the curtains fall on the 1986 campaign, Thompson is hoping to have accumulated $1,825,000., a nine per-cent increase over the 1985 achievement. Money raised will fund the activities of 34 participating agencies. Details of the campaign to date were announced at a Labatt's Kuntz House get-together last night. At the same time four local companies were honored for corporate donations in excess of a i7L'Lrr1Ps. Le "t:_"_'_i'ii2i_i_-._il:l. kd . gg IR' - . ' i LR "'j4f,,it: . . But we must also recognize the importance of corporate donations as well, especially since they represent 30 per cent of our campaign," said Thompson. In addition to the four afforementioned compa- nies, United Way is also happy to have Clemmer Industries on board. The 140 employees collected $4,006., which matched dollar-for-ddllar by the company, brings the donation to $8,012. The money was raised by speaking to employees on a one-to-one basis. _ Barton Myers Associates of Toronto, noted for design excellence in many innovative projects in North America, were architects of the wine and spirits museum. United Way's 1986 campaign will conclude Oct. 31. The Seagram Museum, located on the site of the original Joseph E. Seagram distillery, includes a 19th century barrel warehouse renovated to accommodate a gift shop, L.C.B.O. store, and restaurant. As well, a new 17,000 square foot, 40 high addition houses permanent exhibits, a film theatre, a library and archives, and officer; it also features free-standing pavilions around a large sky-lit interior courtyard. Architectural award for Seagram Museum The Seagram Museum has been awarded the prestigious Governor General's Medal for Architecture for 1986. The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada makes the annual awards to "recognize outstanding achievement in architectural design and to promote public recognition of the contribution architecture makes to the quality of life in Canada." The Seagram Museum was one of only three Ontario projects to receive the top medal award in the national competition.
