Clamping down on cycling abuses Currently there is no provision in the Act to require that a cyclist identify him or herself to police. The Hamilton resolution was sparked by "a serious case of concern in urban municipalities.‘"‘And it didn‘t take long for Waterloo to unanimously voice support for the resolution. The resolution will be circulated to all munic'ipalities in Ontario with populations over 50,000 persons. Waterloo City Council has decided to join in the fight against irresponsible and lawâ€"breaking cyclists. In response to a similar move by the city of Hamilton, Waterloo will send a resolution to Minister of Transportation and Communicaâ€" tions Ed Fulton, requesting that the Highway Traffic Act be amended to require that the operators of bicycles on public highways be required, upon request, to identify themselves to a police constable. "I have a real concern about the lack of respect they (cyclists) shg}v for tl[e rules of the road," said Mayor Marjorie Carroll.
