Each week the seniors and juniors will meet teams from the same schools. And because the senior Knights are seeded high, both Bluevale teams will be meeting opposition from the betâ€" ter football schools. Richard O‘Brien Chronicle Staff Bluevale collegiate senior footâ€" ball Knights may be pleased to know that they are among the top ranked teams in the Waterloo County high school league but it could be bad news for the junâ€" iors. Knights opened their season as visitors to Eastwood Rebels without nine of 14 of last year‘s regulars and lost 1â€"0. ‘‘We believe this might be the toughest schedule we‘ve ever played," said Bob Serviss, coach of the senior Knights. The seniors will feel the loss of wide receiver Bob Taylor and linebackerâ€"centre Bill Stotts, but there is reason to believe they could enjoy tough competition. Frank Krieschneider is back at quarterback and this year some good running backs will add variety to his fine throwing game. FOR CHRIST‘S SAKE A study of a book (103pp) written by Toronto Star Columâ€" nist Tom Harpur. "Jesus is the greatest figure in history and the most understood.‘‘ Harpur makes a powerful argument for a contemporary understanding of Jesus using the New Tesâ€" tament itself and the insights of biblical scholars. "I have four quality running backs in Chris Wood, Jeff Seibert, Steve Chapeskie and Brett Johnston." meanwhile, shut out Waterlooâ€" Oxford Crusaders by a similar 1â€"0 score on a goal by Deanna Golem. Vikes‘ goalkeeper Janne Fetter stopped a penalty shot in that game. The rebuilding Knights had their share of scoring chances but Rebels‘ veteran fullback Kathy Barber had the only goal of the game. Flanker Dave Fish has reâ€" turned and good things are exâ€" pected from Brad Stevens, an offensive end and defensive lineâ€" backer. Offensive guard Phil Quickfall is a hard hitter and linebackers Andreas Mitterer and Matt Hobson will bolster the defence. "It‘s a rebuilding year," said Knights‘ coach Dale Scott. ‘"We ‘‘We‘re not starting from scratch but we‘re very close to it," said Ciccarelli. ‘"Our whole offensive and defensive line is gone because they played both ways." Returning defensive back Kevin Bater will be captain of the defensive unit and Jonathan Bechtold, another defensive back, will also be an important member of the specialty teams. Chris Branov, a Grade 10 Junior coach Mario Ciccarelli has a rebuilding job ahead of him with many new players on the team. IDEAS FOR AN ALTERNATIVE CHRISTMAS: You may not be thinking of Christmas yet, but area merâ€" chants are! The annual onâ€" slaught over overâ€"indulgence and commercialism is about to begin. Are you tired of the ‘‘Christmas rush‘‘ that our Lord‘s birth has become a ‘‘sellâ€"abration.‘‘ Now is the time to think about and prepare for Alternative Christmas Celebraâ€" tion. Three Sundays beginning September 21st, 11:20 a.m. have lots of Grade nines and 10s and we‘re looking a couple years down the road. Some kids aren‘t sure of their positions yet but they did a good job." Knights have Cara Strohack, Jen Dewar, Trish Campbell, Lisa Armstrong and Tracy Richber back from last year. ‘"I told my players what was going to happen and I had no chance to change anything and I‘m sure (Scott) was in the same boat." Illness prevented a referee from showing up at the game so Scott and Rebels coach Bev Bayus acted as officials as well as coaches. *‘*We had no chance to coach," said Bayus, who lost eight of a total of 11 starters at the end of last season. @Eechulting e&kealrtkation PayVys KW DRUM CORPS ASSOCIATION xxx« x x kX k ® * w PARENTS ...
