The orchestra was founded in 1985 for the purpose of providing a playing outlet for talented local performers. All concerts take place at 8 p.m. Sunday evenings at St. John‘s Lutheran Church, William and Willow Streets, Waâ€" terloo. The first concert, Musikfestâ€" spiel, is an official Oktoberfest event. It will feature a program of German music by Johann Strauss, Mozart, Brahms and Schubert. In addition, some local celebrities will participate in the Toy Symphony. Included will be the Suite of Early Canadian Dances arranged by music director Graâ€" ham Coles. Flutist Jennifer Pe terson will be soloist. The first concert of 1987 March 29 will present the first winner of the Laurier Competition. A talâ€" ented and deserving undergraduâ€" ate student from Wilfrid Laurier‘s Faculty of Music will appear with us as guest soloist. The program will also have works by Geminiani, Telemann and Haydn. May 3, guitarist John Goulart will perform a concerto by Carulli. Mozart, Purcell and J.B. Bach will aiso be on the proâ€" gram. The season finale will feature J.S. Bach‘s Suite No. 3 for orchestra and the Renaissance Singers, the superb local choir lead by Ray Daniels.
