Musical Theatre Laurier will enter its third season when Rodgers. and Hammerstein‘s South Pacific is presented at Wilfrid Laurier University Sept. 18â€"20 at 8 p.m. The shows will be performed in the Theatre Auditorium, with the cast and crew surmountâ€" ing any problems the construction of the new John B. Aird Centre may have presented. Ticket costs will remain at $6, with a reduced rate of $4 for students and seniors. Tickets are available at the Student Informaâ€" tion Centre on campus, or at the door. Musical Theatre Laurier is a company of university staff, faculty, administration, alumni and students. It is directed by Dr. Leslie O‘Dell of the English department at Laurier. The musical dir »ctor for this year‘s producâ€" tion is Leslie De‘Ath of the faculty of music, and the show is choreographed by Valerie Lee, from the Moree School of Dance, of Kitchenâ€" er. Many of the cast of last year‘s hit, Guys and Dolls, will be returning this year, including Deborah Ludolph, a Laurier music graduate, as Nellie Forbush; Arthur Read, dean of arts and science, as Luther Billis; Fred Nichols, dean of students, as Captain George Brackett; and Mike Lenz, another Laurier music graduâ€" ate, as Lt. Joseph Cable. Newcomers to the stage this year include Dr. David Falk as Emile de Becque and Patricia Pascoe as Bloody Mary, both of whom are voice instructors with the music faculty, with Falk also serving as the head of Laurier‘s opera program. â€"â€"â€"â€"â€"â€"â€"Allâ€"around effortsâ€"â€"â€"â€"â€"â€" Musical Theatre Laurier to present South Pacific Prices! This version of the hit musical, which includes songs like "I‘m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outâ€"a My Hair," "Bali Ha‘l‘ and ‘"Some Enchanted Evening‘" will be staged in t{:ree-quarter round, making greater use of the floor of the theatre and less of the proscenium arch stage. _ ________ According to director O‘Dell, ‘"What I tried to do is get the performers as close to the audience as possible. So, instead of having performers up on the stage and audience stretching back into the theatre, I brought the performers down to the floor and put the audience around them. "Everyone is as close to the audience as I can possibly get them. Every seat in the house is the best seat." A production involving so many different facets of the university community makes for fun rehearsals and increases good working relations on campus. In the words of Dean Nichols, "I‘ve always been one who promotes high morale on campus, and nothing adds to it more than this sort of ihing. It gives you even more respect for the people you work with. They‘re a great bunch of people."‘ s o The tradition for entertaining musical theaâ€" tre began at Laurier three years ago when a scaledâ€"down version of Camelot was presented in a lecture theatre. As well as mounting musical theatre productions, Theatre Laurier also presents a dramatic selection with a student cast during the winter term each year.
