this acoustic trio managed to make Bingeman Park an intimate jazz club. Watch for this talented performer in the future. This intimacy continued with Forth Inversion, a collection of mostly young players led by veteran pianist Bob Fenton. Their set provided the perfect wrap up to the first half of the Saturday jJazz extravaganza. After a quick supper break, the Aaron Davis band burst onto the stage. Polished and powerful these guys cooked! As well as a tight fusion of jazzâ€"funk there were spaces for some exquisite soloing by all members of this Toronto supergroup. The differences between the pre and post supper groups was taken a step or two further with the appearance of Thin Men. This was post bop, post funk music that sizzled and Kâ€"W Jazzâ€"Fest ‘86 The Studio at 9 Princess St. E. in Waterloo is buzzing these days as the Kâ€"W Little Theatre prepares the play Maximillian Beetle for Okâ€" toberfest. Ants, a bee, a wasp and butterfly are some of the insects to be seen flitting around, learning lines, songs and dance steps. Clearly this is some of the leading edge of Canadian jazz. _ Not to be outdone, local faves Line One did some cooking of their own. They now put on a tight blend of jazz fusion and funk that grooves solid! The energy level rose in appreciation for Line One, and continued to rise in expectation of the "headliners‘‘ Manteca. This Toronto based group has evolved out of salsa and funk roots into a top notch ‘80s funk/fusion dance band. Slick and professional, yes, but also with boundless energy. Led by the sometimes frenzied Matt Zimbel on percussion and the very steady Henry Heilling on bass Manteca personifies "hot." Their brand of music may offend jazz purists, but they do get‘the crowd moving. Tickets and more information may be obtained by calling 886â€"0660 and leaving a message. Because of limited seating, there will be admission by reservation only. Group rates are available on request. Maximillian Beetle is a Canadian collaboraâ€" tion, written by Larry Zacharko from an idea by Greg Lawson. It promises to be a delightful evening of family theatre presented by KWLT. \@ er vup . r€ ;Lf ’;g & & f é u> Subscribe right now to any of Ragers Payâ€"TV packages or standâ€"alone services and you‘ll pay no installation fee!
