The top two seeds in both the men's and women's singles were gone before the finals Monday after- noon. Men's champion Alan Trivett of Bramalea was unseeded, much to his chagrin, and Patti Hender- son, the fourth and final women's seed, took the women's championship. Trivett beat No. 3 seed Rob Horwood 6-2, 6-3 in the men's final and Henderson had an easy time with Waterloo's Carol Culik, the No. 3 women's seed, as she need just 40 minutes to claim a 6-1, (H win For Trivett, the weekend was one in which he was to beat four dlayers for the first time, including Horwood. He played every shot in the book with considerable accuracy as he disposed of Horwood in 55 min- utes. The win over Horwood was his first in 12 years. The two players met for the first time in an under-10 tournament. - Culik, 17, showed the effects of a long day of tennis with a listless performance in the finals. That morning she had played Claudia Steffen for nearly three hours in a semi-final matchup before Steffen dropped out with the flu. After that, she was in a doubles match before the singles finals. Henderson said she knew Culik had taken medication for a bad headache before their match but that was something Culik, offering no excuses. preferred not to discuss. .
