Richard O ‘Brien Chronicle Staff The long and short of Waterloo Tigers Interâ€"County Major Baseâ€" ball League season is becoming one and the same. With just two wins so far, the season is long. But it‘s also going to be short because without a dramatic reversal of form Tigers are destined to miss the playoffs. They did nothing to help their chances Sunday afternoon at Bechtel Park as they lost 8â€"0 to Guelph Royals to complete a dismal weekend that began the night before as St. Thomas Elgins were the visitors in a doubleheader. Saturday night, Tigers few faithful fans were in for a long time, not a good time, as Tigers lost 7â€"4 and 16â€"4 in two seven inning games that started at 6 p.m. and lasted until 10: 40. League statistics that include games played May 30 show Tigers with the secondâ€"worst Nissi Computers scored a 4â€"3 win over MacLeod Roofing Friâ€" day in the Waterloo tyke baseball championship. Waterloo 884â€"0851 Tigers in trouble EST. 1967 Three weekend losses fielding percentage after comâ€" mitting 25 errors in their first seven games. That trend was evident Sunday as Tigers committed four errors â€"â€" with three of them going to second baseman Yves Tessier â€"â€" that led to four unearned runs. Losing pitcher Mike Simpson last eight innings and gave up five runs â€"â€" three of them earned â€"â€" before giving way to reliever Greg Â¥Yari in the ninth. Simpson allowed 10 hits and two walks to go with five strikeouts and one wild pitch. Yari gave up three runs â€"â€" just one of the earned â€"â€" and gave up a solo home run to Greg Cranker, his second hit of the afternoon. Paul Ante led Royals with three hits including a double and Brad Harvey‘s two hits included a double as he drove in two runs. Unearned runs got Tigers off to a bad start in Saturdays doubleâ€" header as starting pitcher John McDade was charged with just one of three of Elgins‘ firstâ€"inâ€" ning runs. Dan Collison‘s twoâ€"run single did most of the damage. Tigers had six singles disâ€" tributed among six different players. Elgins got a threeâ€"run homer from Pete Zister in the third and Collison homered in the seventh. Tony Yacobino gave Tigers a twoâ€"run homer in the third. In the fourth, John East doubled and scored on Jamie Fulton‘s double. Fulton played his junior baseball for Cambridge Bulldogs and it was his first game for Tigers. Tigers actually went into a 2â€"0 lead in game two as Tessier went around the bases on a combinaâ€" tion of two errors, a stolen base and a wild pitch. Then Fulton doubled and scored on a double from Stevens. Brad Stevens had Waterloo‘s other run in the seventh when he came home on a fielder‘s choice. Tigers had a particularly bad fifth inning as they gave up nine runs on seven hits and two errors. Highlights of that inning included a twoâ€"run homer by Mark Ebel and a twoâ€"run single by Bob McQuiggan. Jody Pfaff scored on Tony Yacobino‘s ground rule d8uble in the fifth and in the sixth Fulton tripled and came home on a fielder‘s choice to complete Waâ€" terloo‘s scoring. Elgins‘ Collison was ejected in the fifth for bumping with home plate umpire Dave Modrowski and he was restrained by teamâ€" mates before being led to the dugout. He has been suspended indefinitely pending a hearing. Tigers play tonight in Brantâ€" ford at 8. Saturday, they‘re at home to Toronto Maple Leafs at 7:05 before travelling to St. Thomas on Sunday for a 7:30 start.
