The money was only imaginary but the competition wasn‘t as the Metro Toronto team posted a better profit during that period than did their 6,500 competitors in 951 teams at 152 schools across Canada. The competiâ€" tion began on a small scale at the university 14 years ago and went national two years ago. Its purpose has remained the same from the beginning â€" to give its contestants a realistic understanding of how the stock market operates in Canada. As a result, teams use all the techniques of the smart investor â€" trading options, buying on margin, selling short and buying and selling the great range of stocks listed by the Toronto Stock Exchange. While teams may send their transactions to the university by mail, only those using Sandy Hayduk, Todd Mick, Bruce Mitchell, Andy Shannon, Jim Terry and Janice Tuominen. The consultants focus their atâ€" tention on business that need assistance, and new entrepreâ€" neurial ideas. A wide variety of business problems has been solved by the consultants, with the major emâ€" phasis on marketing and acâ€" counting. Since the program began in 1973, businessmen in the Kâ€"W region have been helped by the Consulting Service in areas such as feasibility studies, marâ€" ket surveys, inventory control, location analysis, distribution systems, financial planning, bookkeeping and computer sysâ€" tems. The problem solving process begins with a meeting between electronic mail, through Bell Canada‘s ENVOY 100 system, are eligible for prizes. Many schools had more than one team enâ€" tered.
