PLAZA Waterloo Ghosts won the first game of their Midwestern ladies league doubleheader and passed balls proved to be their undoing as they had to settle for a tie with Sarnia Belles in the second game Sunday at Hillside Park. Patty Jo Mcintosh was the winning pitcher as Ghosts won the first game 3â€"2. They also carried a oneâ€"run lead into the final inning of game two. Mcintosh drove in the winning run of the first game with a double in the seventh inning and Nancy Lanteigne and Trish McCarthy each had two of Ghosts‘ nine hits. Other hits went to Dawn McAlâ€" lister, Jane Bell, Olga Vujovic and Sue Sutherland. Field manager Pete Mcllwraith explained that he used most of his players to get them ready for a tournament in London this coming weekend. Win and tie for Ghosts "I think I used 14 players," said Mcllwraith. "We‘re trying to get them some innings. Some hadn‘t even played five innings (before Sunday)." Gayle Beuermann pitched the second game and had some control problems that led to the tying run. A runner advanced from first to third on two passed balls and scored on a single with two out. WATERLOO Laure! McLaughlin and Bell each hit safely twice in the second game. Other hits went to Jackie Stockie, Sutherland, McCarthy and MciIntosh. Belles‘ first run also came after a passed ball.
