May 17 the orchestra travelled to Boston, Mass., where they played in the New England Music Festival, bringing back a silver medal as a token of their skill. The orchestra, comprised of students from grade 9 to 13, worked toward this competition for a year â€" practising, organizing, and selling stuffed animals to help pay for the trip. Originally, they had planned to play in Montreal, where another festival for the same competition was to take place. In Boston the orchestra was competing against international standards, not other groups. They played for three judges, who recorded their performance and then judged the group on both their live presentation and the recorded version of it. "'Although they found playing in a competition of international scope daunting at first, they had no problem overcoming any initial stageâ€"fright.
