Richard O‘Brien Chronicle Staff Waterloo collegiate‘s senior boys soccer team had five â€"â€" count ‘em â€"â€" five different scorers as they disposed of Preston Panthers 5â€"0 Friday in a display of teamwork and balance at a playing field beside Conestoga Mall. Rick Willms, Roland Mechler, Andrew Vann and Fred and Steve Grossman all scored for Vikings and goalkeeper Paul Willms held the opposition scoreless throughout the 90 minâ€" utes of play. The win lifted Vikings into a 4â€"2 wonâ€"lost record because they‘d also beaten Waterlooâ€"Oxford Crusaders 7â€"2 on Thursday. Blueâ€" vale Knights beat Crusaders 4â€"0 on Friday to improve their reâ€" cord to 1â€"4â€"1. Knights had earned a 1â€"1 tie with KCI Raiders three days earlier for their first point of the season. Vikings were playing without John Vrablic, who has returned from the Canadian Youth team but had other committments. They were also without Jason Mausberg, who has an injured ankle, but they had little trouble disposing of the winless Panâ€" thers. "That was a good sign that everybody‘s playing together," said Vikings‘ coach Paul Voisin. "*Preston‘s winless but a shutout is always good for the goalie."‘ Vikings had lost 51 to the talented Forest Heights Trojans in their previous outing despite the return of centre forward Vrablic. But Vrablic was closely watched by Trojans and Vikings had difficulty adjusting to his style because he his ball control allows him to take moretime making passes. f Soccer Vikings, Knights on target ‘"He (Vrablic) plays a different style," said Mechler, one of Vikings‘ fullbacks. "The guys were running circles when he had the ball. It‘s an adjustment for us but it‘ll help us in the long Vrablic scored five times in the win over Crusaders while other goals went to Bill Mitchell and Fred Grossman. Nick Kanaki was a twoâ€"goal scorer for Knights in their win over Crusaders and the shutout went to Dave Jansen, who startâ€" ed in goal for Knights in the game with KCI. Other scorers were Rob Campbell and Steve Mihas. Mihas also scored in the 1â€"1 tie with KCI.
