LETTERS King George school holds reunion The 75th Anniversary of King George School in Hamilton will take place Saturday, April 19, 1986 from 1â€"5 p.m. at the school, 77 Gage Avenue North in Hamilton. * It was one of the days during March break that my children decided to see if anything interesting was on television. Sure enough, to my surprise, there was. Not for them though. For me. King George School has a particularâ€" ly colourful history. It has been an elementary school, a boys‘ vocational school and a military hospital during the war years. Our many graduates and former staff are especially invited to share this day together. If you have any pictures, old proâ€" grams or other memorabilia for use in displays, please mark them with your I could hardly believe my eyes. An exercise show styled after the 20â€" Minute Workout and Charlene Prickett Show. (Prickett exercises front and centre with her two sidekicks behind her.) The only difference with this new show (and what a difference) is that the people exercising are men. Honest to goodness tanned, wellâ€"muscled, need I say more, men. For years I have said to anyone who cared to listen that having only women on exercise programs would continue to lead men to believe that aerobics, stretching and muscular endurance was an activity to be enjoyed (?) only by women. Sure, men know the value of muscular strengthening. Particularly from the neck up. It took me two years of constant, what else, nagging, to get my husband involved in fitness. I believe the direct quote was, "I don‘t want to exercise with a bunch of sissies‘" I think the reality was that he was envious knowing that these "sissies‘‘ could probably outâ€"run, outâ€"jump, outâ€"muscle, and outâ€"live him. With this new television show aired at 3: 30 p.m. throughout the week, perhaps more men would realize the potential they could release and nurture. _fFeedback Having a muscular body shape, my Fitness Forum They felt the show was good and liked nearly everything about it. They noted there were a lot of people present but it was worth it as they enjoyed sampling the free Robert and Ann White, Waterioo Kathy Hammond Fitness Instructor husband stood the risk of gaining 10 pounds each year, without regular body maintenance. Finally having realized this, he has joined an exercise class and has been going twice weekly for about three years. Now I have to schedule our evening activities around his class! Getting back to the show, I feel it necessary to say that the men exercising are truly in shape. They don‘t just have great bodies, though that adds a bit to the show. The exercises performed are common, basic movements which will work to strengthen and stretch safely. There is not a great deal of bouncing, which acts against itself by making the muscles contract rather than stretch. I was in fact astounded at how supple their bodies were. Generally men have a difficult time with stretching. The bulk of muscle at the back of the neck and shoulders and around the thighs often prohibits an appropriate degree of stretching. The men wear shorts and tank tops and sport the latest aerobic shoes which are just hitting the Canadian market, specifically the Waterloo Region. They even, egad! wear short golfing socks or as women call them, sockettes! If you find yourself with some time to kill on a weekday afternoon or have the use of a VCR for taping, you‘ll find the show a welcome change from the babes who regularly bounce their way into our living rooms. name and address and forward them to the school. Here‘s something I ran across that you might find interesting. Jt has to do with the choice we must make as to how we‘ll live our lives. Used Book Sale held April 4th and 5th at First United Church, Waterloo. _ I People whose attitude to circumstances increases their bitterness from year to year cannot give themselves to life, but complain that life will not give itself to them. The donations of books, records, and magazines were much appreciated, and the response of those attending the sale provided net sales of over $13,000. This money is to be returned to the commuâ€" nity in the form of scholarships, burâ€" saries, and support of various commuâ€" nity groups. Asked at Bingeman Park Nietzsche once wrote that "growth in wisdom may be exactly measured by decrease in bitterness.‘‘ You can‘t have the childish luxury of bitterness and, at the same time, be wise. We have to choose. Either your humanity must perish that your lesser life may live its little life in vanity; or, your lesser life must go, that your humanity be fulfilled. This is the inexorable condition of life, To the extent that the one is chosen, the other must suffer. _ Unsold books were donated to the Mennonite Central Committee and various local community service Whenever people‘s choices serve low ends, when they might serve high ones, the low things in their lives are achieved at the expense of the high We would also like to thank the members of First United Church for their support in permitting us to rent Hilliard Hall which has become a landmark for our sale. ones. As human beings, they are less. And if they think that they can keep both unimpaired, they are deluding themselves. It seems that human fulfillment is achieved by what we reject, quite as much as by what we accept. Just as the sculptor could not make a statue without taking away a lot of the stone. It‘s the stone that is chipped away that leaves the image. Room is made for a work of art. Just so, when a person breaks away a powerful impulse toward selfâ€"centredness, or a lifeâ€"distorting prejudice, or an embittering resentment, room is left for a more said he‘s never seen anything like it before and found everything to be wonderful. He arrived early to beat the big rush and said the lineâ€"ups didn‘t bother him. What is chipped away and cast out makes room for a richer Bitterness is a combination of selfâ€"pity and resentment, both of which are selfâ€"destructive; so, we shouldn‘t complain when we have to give up something to someone else, or when things don‘t always go the way we want. It hurts, and we feel the wrench, but it makes room for life. Maybe room that is badly needed. _ life. It is better for a person to be blind to the outer light than the inner light. It is better to crawl on all fours in the right direction, than to walk in the wrong direction on both feet. A woman, who evidently reads this column, kindly sent me a clipping titled, ‘‘The Magic of Doors‘"‘. It points out that doors are such an everyday part of our lives that we rarely give them a thought. Yet the doors we choose to pass through indicate, to a great extent, the sort of people we become. There are school and college doors, library and church doors, prison doors, doors of art galleries, hospitals, cocktail lounges, homes and arenas, and on and on. Are we passing through some of them too often? Or not often enough? Should we try opening some new doors while we shun others? Doors are interesting in that they show us the kind of lives we live. BOx 642, Cambridge, NIR 5W1) Neutrality is not the answer I was very distressed to see the account of that lecture made by Mr. Abdullah at the University of Waterloo after which he held a press conference. If we ever take a neutral stand on the PLO affair in Palestine then we as a country are indeed reaping the wrath of God upon us. God promised Palestine to the Jews and therefore let not man take a stand above God. Every person that does if he does not repent in Christ will be doomed to eternal hell and the suffering that accompanies it. ‘"Basically it was well put toâ€" gether." He did say the lines were somewhat slow but said most of the times the wait was worth it. He even won a Blue Jays baseball cap umbrelia. Jim Donald, Kitchener Alice Alles Waterloo, Ont.
