PAGE 30 â€" WATERLOO CHRONICLE, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 12, Richard O‘Brien Chronicle Staff Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks may not be Ontario Universities Athletic Association champions but they live to see another day. In games that coach Wayne Gowing called "carbon copies" in many important respects, Golden Hawks lost to defending Canadian champion York Yeoâ€" men 6â€"4 on Thursday at home and 6â€"3 Saturday in Toronto to drop their bestâ€"ofâ€"three OUAA chamâ€" pionship series in two straight games. If Hawks played two carbon copy games, they won‘t want to run off any more of them since they‘re travelling to Moncton this weekend to meet the number one ranked Moncton Blue Eagles in a bestâ€"ofâ€"three Canadian Inâ€" teruniversity Athletic Union reâ€" gional playoff series. In two other regional series, Yeomen will host Dalhousie and University of Quebec will meet Calgary. Winners of the three series will advance to the CIAU finals in Edmonton where they will be joined by the host University of Alberta. With the losses to Yeomen, Hawks dropped to fifth from second in the rankings and York More names can be added to the list of tennis players who will compete in exhibition matches Friday, March 21 at Wilfrid Laurier University. â€" _ o The evening will be highlighted by a meeting between 137thâ€"ranked Jane Young of Waterloo and Helen Kelesi, a 16â€"yearâ€"old from Edmonton who is ranked 25 in the world. Canadian tennis star Lorne Main has recently confirmed that he will play in the club pro doubles set. A former Davis Cup player and captain, Main will team up with Keith Carpenter to go against area glub pros Ed Adrulis (Northfield) and Harry Greenan (Camâ€" ridge). Main, the only Canadian player ever to win the junior championship three times, is presently managing director of the All Canadian Tennis Club for world class juniors in London, Ont. Play opens at 7 p.m. and tickets are on sale for $5. Hawks, however, were forced to open up and take chances that created openings that gave third period goals to Marty Williamson and Greg Rolston of the Yeoâ€" men. Beric Sykes and Peter Black had the other goals for Laurier. Also scoring for York were Joe Pocobene, Mike James, Joe Anâ€" dreoli and Gary Corbiere. Thursday at the Waterloo arena, Hawks tied the game at 3â€"3 on a goal by Terry McCutâ€" cheon early in the third period but the turning point had to be a breakaway goal by York‘s Kent Brimmer just 19 seconds later. It was Brimmer‘s second of three goals and it came after he took a long pass over the York blueline and the centre ice line and some fans who were unâ€" aware of university hockey rules thought the play was offside.
