Rob Froese, who provided the heroics last season at this time with a late gameâ€"winning basket that sent Warriors on the way to Halifax for the CIAU championâ€" ships, was again the key player in a pressure situation. Froese lived up to his reputaâ€" tion as one of Warriors‘ top free throw shooters, making two foul shots with three seconds remainâ€" ing, to lead Warriors to a 63â€"62 win over University of Winnipeg Wesmen in the final game of a fourâ€"team CIAU regional tourâ€" nament Saturday at UW. And while Froese came through in the dramatic finish, it took the accurate 28â€"point shootâ€" "I like to win the games by 10 so we don‘t have to worry about it," said the tournament MVP and allâ€"star. ‘"Peter (Savich) really held us in the game." Warriors opened Fridsy with an 81â€"72 win over Dinosau s after Wesmen beat Redmen 85â€"75. Froese had scored the final two points on a 15â€"foot jumper to beat McMaster Marauders 75â€"73 in a similar situation last year but he said he wouldn‘t mind if it doesn‘t become a habit. It was Savich‘s last game at UW as a Warrior but he didn‘t have that on his mind while turning in a shooting perforâ€" mance of 20 points in the first half as Warriors built up a 38â€"29 lead and another eight in the second half. Wesmen had come back to tie he game 58â€"58 with 3: 30 remainâ€" ing and went into a 62â€"59 lead with 49 seconds left. Paul Boyce put Warriors back within one before fouling Gord Tucker, who missed with 11 seconds remainâ€" ing. ‘"‘They (Wesmen) took the ball out of our big men‘s hands but we never did lose contact because Peter was scoring," said Warrior coach Don McCrae. "He was draining them from all over the floor." After Savich‘s 28 points, Froese was the only Warrior in double figures with 14. Randy Norris scored nine and Paul Boyce added eight. _ Will Parker led Wesmen with 16 points and Tucker netted 13. Mark Johannson made 12 and Joey Vickery added 10. _ Boyce was Warriors‘ leader against Dinosaurs, scoring 20. Froese had 15 and Norris added 13. Savich scored 12 and Willie Boggild netted 10. In the final four again for the fourth consecutive year, Warâ€" riors travel to Halifax to meet Western Mustangs in one semiâ€" final while Victoria Vikings meet Saskatchewan in the other semiâ€" final on Friday.
