PAGE 16 - WATERLOO CHRONICLE. WEDNESDAY, MARS-:53 English in the Working Envi- ronment has received a grant of $8,382 from the Ministry of State for Multiculturalism. The grant is to make possible the running of Cross-Cultural Awareness classes in two local plants as a pilot project. The goal of Cross-Cultural Awareness classes is to facilitate communi- cation in problem situations, especially those aggravated by cultural tensions. This is done by examining basic communication skills, conflict resolution, and different cultural styles of com- municating. One such program was already run this year at Custom Trim; the location of the second program is as yet unde- termined. English in the Working Envi- ronment (EWE) is an innovative program of English courses for improving communication in the workplace. Classes are offered to employees at their workplace. As such the only cost to the employ- er is the release time for the em- ployees. Similarly, the Cross-Cultural Awareness program is being offered to leadhands and super- visors: their released time is the only cost. Both of these pm grams contribute to EWE's goal of working towards full integra- tion of newcomers in our com- munity. EWE receives federal grant An appeal to the few Strassburger Insulation Ltd.
