"---T'llD-BlZ Trillium Computer Introduces Hide-Away 20 The first Canadian-designed and assembled IBM compatible hard disk on a card, the Hide-Away 20, has been introduced by Water- Ioo's Trillium Computer Resources Inc The Hide-Away 20 is a 2bmegabyte hard disk mounted with a controller card in a shielding bracket. The unit allows storage expansion without any front slot sacrifice because it hides entirely inside the computer. One and one-half expansion slots on the motherboard is all the space required and a standard PC power supply is all the power required. You simply plug it in. The Hide-Away 20 is the first subsystem of its kind to be designed and assembled in Canada which accounts for the competitive retail price of $1,500. Canadian origins and production also result in favourable availabili- ty tor Canadian consumers, "It's the ideal solution for those who have grown attached to their two f1oppies," says Bob Reimer, Trillium’s president and founder. "For some, it means more storage in machines that seemed to have reached their limits. For others it means enough room for tape backup." Reimer adds, "The Hide-Away 20 sells for less than some 10 megabyte versions from the States. Furthermore, its unique design will allow us to enhance the 20 megabyte system to 30 megabytes by simply cGnding the con- troller board." The Hide-Away 20 could be considered Canada's ultimate business card. Total com- patibility and high reliability along with an excellent warranty make the Hide-Away 20 an important new product in IBM PC compati- blés. Three neighbors what a difference (NC) - Financial Planning! We hear those words bandied about a great deal today. ln fact, someone asked me recently, "just what is financial planning, any- way? My response was quite simple: "lt's taking the assets you have. . . and earn . . . and getting the best possible value out of them by reduc- ing your taxes, and increasing your investment return, without reducing your standard of living." V That's my idea. Maybe yours different. To illustrate to my questioner, I used the following example, which is based on factual past-perfor- mance. The figures are indeed past- performance, and cannot be denied. Ten years ago, three neighbors all decided they were going to save SKI) per month. However, they each chose a different method of putting those savings to work. 7 Neighbor I chose to save in a sav- ings account at the bank. He then advised that the M0,000 borrowed be invested into that same mutual fund - Taurus fund, Neighbor 2 chose to save SIOO a month and invest it into a mutual fund called Taurus fund. Each had paid out $100 monthly ($1.200 yearly) for the past 10 years. They were astounded at the re- sults. The bank saver had seen his $12,000 (SIOO monthly) grow to over$19,000, The Taurus fund saver had seen his SI00 monthly grow to over $35,000. But the man who had listened to his financial planner hadn't really saved Sl00 monthly. Because he was in the 35% tax bracket (as most or- dinary Canadians are), and because he borrowed to invest, the Govern- ment gave him a tax deduction of $35 on each $l00 paid in interest, making his "true cost" (after the tax rebate) only $65 per month. And . . . after repaying the MO,000 Ioan, he was left with 'l03.000. Which would you rather be? Bank saver ... $12,000 saved . . .value $19,000. Fund investor . . . Sl2,000 saved . . .S35,000 value.
