Murray Haase will be honored as the Kitchenerâ€"Waterloo Citiâ€" zen of the Year for 1985 at a special banquet this evening. The 51â€"yearâ€"old Haase, of Castâ€" lefield Avenue in Waterloo, has been continually involved in communityâ€"oriented service for over 25 years. This year‘s committee chairâ€" man Roman Ciecwierz said: "It‘s been summed up perfectly in his nomination; Murray gives everything he‘s got to his family, church, business and communiâ€" ty. His generosity, enthusiasm, commitment, accomplishments and sense of urgency qualify him as Kitchenerâ€"Waterioo Citizen of the Year." Haase chosen as citizen of the year Haase‘s accomplishments inâ€" clude ongoing fundraising activiâ€" ties and extensive involvement on the stewardship council at St. Peter‘s Lutheran Church. He was extremely active with the Kâ€"W Jaycees through the 1960s, heavily involved in the Kitchener Conestogo Rotary Club and has been instrumental in efforts such as the Oktoberfest Charity Proâ€" Am Golf Tournament, the Labatt Brier, Big Sisters‘ Dream Home Fundraising, the Kâ€"W Symphony Orchestra, the Kâ€"W Hospital Fundraising Campaign and the Lutherwood Organization. During 1985 Haase received a distinct honour when awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship by the Conestogo Rotary Club in recogâ€" nition of his continuous unselfish service to the community. Haase is the owner of Kwikie Minit Markets and part owner of the Puslinch Golf Club. This is the 29th annual honourâ€" ing of a citizen of the year by the Kitchenerâ€"Waterloo Junior Chamber of Commerce/Jaycees. The award is being presented at a banquet this evening at the Valhalla Inn in Kitchener. The guest speaker at this year‘s banquet is Judge Robert D. Reilly.
