"Although confidence for the Region dipped slightly over the past six months, which may be attributed to a seasonal variation, there is a significant improvement since a year ago," Dr. J. Alex Murray, dean of the school of business and economics at Laurier and author of the report, said. "The jlocal economy is expected to outperform the Canadian economy as a whole, particularly in the areas of capital investment, employment and financial perforâ€" mance." "Should these expectations materialize, the ripple effect will have a substantial effect on this region," he said. The employment picture also looks brighter in 1986. Fortyâ€"five per cent of respondents, primarily those from large companies, feel there will be less unemployment â€" a 20 per cent improvement over results in the December, 1984 survey.
