AT THE STAG SHOP SURPRISE HER AT CHRISTMAS EXOTIC I LINGERIE o 36 Ontario St. N. o 7 King St. N Kitchener Waterloo - 742-4331 886-4500 Radio and television documentaries and short films have been produced for educational awareness enabling Cana dians to become better informed concerning hearing impairment among the young. The Elks of Canada is a group established to raise money to provide aid and assistance to needy children under the age of 18. Transportation is also provided for families of children seeking treatment away from home and financial aid when travelling outside the country is often considered through applications. "They will put up money for parents who have to stay in Toronto. for example," said Nora Whittington, spokesper son at St. Mary's. Numerous programs have been formed by the Elks. namely the Deaf Detection and Development program which promotes the best possible services for the hearing impaired child. Last Sunday, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of Canada (BPO) visited the pediatrics ward of St. Mary's hospital in Kitchener. Each patient received a stuffed animal and members spent a little time with the kids brightening up an otherwise bleak hospital stay. A video casrsette recorder compliments of tire Kitchener group of Elks was presented to the ward and Santa popped in for a visit as well. Through the National Purple Cross fund, crutches, braces, medicine, auditory aids and diagnostic equipment is purchased for hospitals. One consolation is the heart-warming efforts of many service groups in the city dedicated to making a child's Christmas a happie_r time no matter where they spend it. Christmas is the most magical time of the year for children. As the holiday approaches, excitement steadily mounts for area children anticipating the presents and special treats they will receive. - But for some i‘hildren in K-W Christmas can only be viewed from a hospital window.
