Here in the Waterloo Region, Kitchener-Wa- terloo Amateur Theatre (KWAT) is gearing up for its own contribution to the festivities. -GUiition to the play. Last month the three volume set was sent, free of charge to schools and libraries across Canada as a gift from the Government of Alberta. The encyclopedia is published at an appropriate time to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Alberta's entry into Contedera- tion. The massive effort involved five years of intensive research, writing, editing and verifi- cation. There were over 5,000 Canadians involved across the country with each prov- ince and territory writing their own articles. It is an all Canadian effort right down to the cloth covers. produced in Cornwall with binding in Toronto and packaging in Oshawa. Authorities from all major Canadian univer- sities, federal and provincial public services. scientific institutions. museums and galleries. private industry and newspapers were con- suited. Some local Kitchener-Waterloo author- ities contributed articles about their field or specialty. Many are calling this the most important Canadian publishing event this year, but Hurtig didn't even get his picture on the cover of Canada's national magazine.
