PAGE 22 - WATERLOO CHRONICLE. WEDNESDAY. OCTOBER 23, 1985 Catharine Orchard Waterloo collegiate Vikings and Bluevale Knights took to the field Friday in the annual Battle of Waterloo. When the dust had settled, the scrappy Blue Machine had handed the highly-rated Bluevale squad an unexpected 14-9 defeat. Not to be outdone, the junior Vikes matched the performance with a 29-0 victory over their cross-town rivals. It marked an exciting climax of a spirit-filled Battle of Waterloo which started Wednesday with the CHYM telephone contest. Hosted by Cathie and Martin White. the challenge left the Vikings twisting and shouting to their number one song. Joyce Lee Congratulations go to Bluevale's Knight of the Week Brett Johnson. He, along with many other BCI students, participated in a Service Day today. Students worked for three hours in the community to raise funds for school activities. Sheldon Hoffman is the new Ms Oktoberfest for 1985-86, and Steve Seibert retained his title as the Jello-Eating Champion. Thanks go to Jenny Shortreed and Becky Rice for organizing this annual assembly. The presence of special guests such as Onkle Hans and the real Miss Oktoberfest made the assembly one of the best ever. Jackie Payne q House Captains - Elections took place in early October. Three people were re-elected to positions of House Captain . Lorrie Nelson, Jackie Payne and Steve Lorentz. We'd also like to welcome the following newcomers to the House Captain Com- mittee - Lori Fox, Tammy Crete, Fran Callahan, Mike Gesufatto, Khamp Phonechaleun and Roger Pearcey. Congratulations to everyone. Last Friday's dance was a huge success due to the hard work of people such as Wendy Lee. The D.J.'s provided some of the best music as everyone danced the night away. The Grad Club will provide popcorn, food and beverages, so come on out and have a "Scarios" night. o KinderKochlest - Waterloo County's Annual cookotf for Junior and senior high school students started with music and a gingerbread house decorating demonstration. Congratulations to the three students from LVS who entered and brought back prizes in these competitions - Steve Kane . 2nd place senior division for Yeast Breads, Jeff Miller - 2nd place senior division for Strudels and our top winner Carolyn MacKinnon - first place senior division for Plans. Thanks Mr, Hendren for allowing these students to participate, Our traditional Oktoberfest dance was held Thursday along with our untraditional Ms. Oktoberfest contest. Ten lovely "ladies" took time away from their busy football practice schedule to prepare for the pageant where they displayed their exquisite evening gowns and demonstrated their talent in music, dance and bird calling. Monday several students and staff participat- ed in fitness classes and weight training programs for Move It and Lose It night. Co-ed badminton nights will be Wednesday for grades 9 and lo and Thursday for 11, 12, and 13. There is also a party for all new students Thursday after school.
