University football fans might have had one question on their minds while leaving Centennial Stadium Friday night after Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks beat McMaster Marauders 21â€" 19. Richard O‘Brien Chronicle Staff They might have wondered, "Just who is this Ken Evraire?" Playing in his first Ontario Universities Athletic Association game, Evraire was quarâ€" terback Mike Wilson‘s main pass receiver. He was also Laurier‘s punter and also saw action with Dave Lovegrove as a punt returner. Coming from Toronto Northern Secondary‘s championship team, Evraire was one of the most sought after players in Ontario and Hawks‘ assistant coach Tom Arnott recruited him. "In my opinion I haven‘t seen a better receiver come out of high school," said Arnott. Friday, Evraire caught seven passes for 134 yards and scored a touchdown on a 25â€"yard pass. Evraire credited his fine rookie debut as a receiver as a ‘"result of confidence in my quarterback and offensive line," and hopes to show improvement at punting. "I went to WLU due to its football tradition and the fact they were there from day one (January, 1985) and made me feel needed," said Evraire. He averaged 44 yards and had one 70â€"yard boomer late in the game. She went on with two different doubles partners to win three more matches against teams from the same three schools. Marcela Krajny and Dave Shaw are University of Waterloo‘s athletes of the week. Shaw is a former high school football allâ€"star from Guelph. In Warriors‘ 42â€"15 loss to Windsor Lancers he played as a middle linebacker and made nine unassisted initial tackles and assisted on 12 others. He also played on every specialty team and threw a block to help Rob Kent make a long punt reâ€" turn. DR. DAVID R. JONES Recruiting pays off for football Hawks in victory over Mac 15 Westmount Rd. Arnott reports that WLU got all of the top five players they wanted and nine of the top 10. Among the top five were defensive ends Bruce Lowe and Mike Choma, safety Rohan Dove and offensive lineman Tim Purdy. â€" Rookie place kicker Steve Rainey was in the top 10 of Laurier‘s most wanted list. He kicked converts on both Laurier touchdowns and was twoâ€"forâ€"two on field goals. Hawks built up an 18â€"3 lead late in the first half on touchdowns by Paul Nastasiuk, on a oneâ€"yard run, and Evraire. Evraire also made a single point on a 58â€"yard punt and Rainey had one of his two field goals at that point. "Last year I was more consistent (at punting)," Evraire said. "I‘m still nervous about college football."‘ For the rest of the game Hawks were kept busy trying to stop Marauders‘ determined comeback attempt. â€" The half ended with the score 18â€"11 after Clorindo Grilli had caught a 30â€"yard touchdown pass that was converted by Rob Deluca. Deluca gave Marauders their other points in the first half on a field goal and a missed field goal that went for a single. Marauders continued to press in the second half. Two more field goals by Deluca made the score 18â€"17 before Rainey‘s second field goal was set by an interception by Lovegrove. Marauders picked up two more points in the final minute when Evraire gave up a safety touch. Wilson had a big night for Hawks, completing 23 of 35 passes for 294 yards compared to Friesen‘s 234 yards passing. Hawks also outran Marauders, gaining 117 yards rushing compared to 76 for the visitors. â€" Hawks host University of Toronto Blues Saturday at 2 at Seagram Stadium.
