PAGE 24 â€" WATERLOO CHRONICLE, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 21. 1985 Waterloo Expos showed once again they‘re capable of playing good baseball, but their efforts fell short in a 3â€"2 loss to Cambridge Bulldogs Thursday night at Bechtel Park. The loss completed a fourâ€"game round robin playoff semiâ€"final and Expos, with a 1â€"3 record, were eliminated from further action in the Interâ€"County Junior Baseball League playoffs. Thursday‘s game would have been unnecesâ€" sary because Expos had lost twice to Brantford. However, Brantford lost twice to Cambridge in the same threeâ€"team round robin series. â€"The game that kept Expos‘ hopes alive was played two days before the encounter at Bechtel. Cambridge overcame a 9â€"0 deficit in the second Pitcher lan Buglass performed well for Expos late in the season and in the playotts. Expos scored both their runs in the second inning to take a 2â€"0 lead on Thursday, but Bulldogs came back with one run in the fifth and two more in the eighth when Ian Buglass, Waterloo‘s starting pitcher, finally tired. Bugâ€" lass was effective for seven innings and had good backing from an efficient infield that turned two double plays. "I was pleased with the effort they put out," said Expo field manager Dan Young. ‘"The last nine or 10 games we played pretty good baseball and I really can‘t complain too much." Bulldogs gained one run in the fifth as Dave Telfer drove in Todd Leslie with a single. In the eighth, Jamie Fulton scored on Terry Stone‘s hit and Tocud Abernethy came home with the winning â€"un on a passed ball after Kevin Buck had come in in relief of Buglass. In the second inning, Tim Wilson singled off Bulldog starter Dave Roberts to drive Terry McCutcheon home from second. Then Jody Pfaff{ singled to drive Wilson home. _ Both teams played errorless ball and had eight hits. McCutcheon, Pfaff and Scott Puncher each had two hits for Expos. â€" Expos have just two players going overage, first baseman Todd Sheridan and centre fielder McCutcheon. Two promising players are expected to come up from the midget ranks to join Expos next season. They are Don Oberle and John East.
