"I would think that that park would be jammed." â€" "It was a shame it was a Canadian championship (in Hull) because of the Fleming has seen his share of tournaments and will be an OASA delegate to the Canadian Amateur Softball Association for this one. Fleming remembers how jammed Hillside was during the OASA senior eliminations in 1982, the year the park opened. And besides, senior ball is always an attraction. Senior ball may sell anywhere, but a smaller community supports midget or junior ball more so than a large one. Among the thltl\’?s he expects are good crowds during the event at Hillside Park. ‘"Hosting the senior tournament should be a very profitable venture," said Fleming. "You get followers of senior ball that you don‘t get in midget or junior."‘ Fleming remembers that Napanee held a midget boys tourney that was a complete success while a junior championship in Hull was not supâ€" ported. Shuhenacadie Lions, the third place team in the Mainland Senior Fastball League, lost their first game in provinâ€" cial eliminations but won four straight and beat Brookfield twice to win the championship. Alpines won an eightâ€"team elimination tournament in Fredericton, beating Freâ€" dericton in the final. Top pitchers are Derm Hartley and Peter Briggs and Dave Fortune is the top hitter. QUEBEC WATERLOO CHRONICLE, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 21, 1985 â€" PAGE 21 National Senior Men‘s Softball Championship ‘"*You have more ceremony and in the case of the Canadians it‘s dressed up a little more and it‘s a little more colorful as to the opening ceremoâ€" nies," said Fleming. Official opening ceremonies will be held Tuesday at 5: 30. Following that, the host Waterloo CHYM‘rs will meet St. John‘s Capitals of Newfoundland at 7: 30. Holding a tournament like the upcoming one at Hillside can require the help of 150â€"200 volunteers although there are only 13 teams as compared to 24 or 30 for a provincial senior elimination tourney. small attendance," said Fleming. St. John‘s Capitals are an allâ€"star team composed of an allâ€"star coach, nine players from the winning team and eight pickups. _ Outfielder Len Beresford is the offenâ€" sive star.
