Open spot Mark Bryson Chronicle Staff With her first taste of the elite ranks of women's tennis under her belt, Waterloo's Jane Young has set her sights on the future. Only a week after bowing out in the second round of the $365,000 Player's Challenge Tennis tour- nament to West German veteran Sylvia Hanika. the 20 year-old Canadian national champion is now anxiously awaiting an invi- tation to compete in the U.S. Open at Flushing Meadows, New York. That invitation hinges on the Women's Tennis Association computer rankings that come out next week. Prior to last week's Toronto tournament, Young was ranked 262nd in the world, but expects to move up dramatically because of her recent showings. “I expect it to move up quite a lot and feel I have a good shot lat making the us. By her own admis- sion Young says she will be spending a lot of training time in three areas which she considers weak in her game; first service, hitting the ball on the rise and coming to the net. that you're not as far off as you thought you were," she said.
