The medal, presented at the end of the opening concert of a special summer workshop series at Laurier, is one of three to be presented this year. The others will go to internationally acclaimed baritone Louis Quilico and Quebec voice teacher Louise André. Past winners include Elmer Iseler, Glenn Gould and Maureen Forrester. Since then, she has been a regular partâ€"time instructor at Laurief, where she helped establish the faculty‘s early instruments proâ€" gram. Edinburgh, where she began violin lessons at the age of six. In Canada, she became wellâ€"known for her work with baroque instruments. She taught at the University of Manitoba and was active with the University Consort, one of Canada‘s first anâ€" cient music instrument groups.â€" Sampson is noted for her work on the viola da gamba, an ancient instrument | that looks something like a cello but has six or more strings to the cello‘s four.
