Such was the case Friday and Saturday at the Ontario western regional track and field meet at Centennial Stadium where quality athletes tried to gain a berth in the allâ€"Ontario finals. a _ Mike Cowan of Waterloo collegiate was a double winner at the meet, winning in the junior boys long and triple jumps with personal best distances. Another strong finisher locally was Dave Româ€" bough of St. John‘s Kilmarnock, winner of the senior boys 800 metre race that had to be rerun after a proâ€" test. Another competitor, Doug Wood of Wingham, stole the show late Saturday afternoon when he set a Canadian interscholastic record of 5.1 metres in the senior boys pole vault. All told, 12 athletes from Waterloo schools qualified for the allâ€"Ontario meet Friday and Saturday in Etobicoke. See story on page 23.
