D. Ross, One surprise winner in UW‘s 10K race John Wainwright of UW‘s math faculty won the master mens division in 35:35 and Diane Schwann won the master women‘s in 43: 49. "It‘s a fast course because there‘s one more downhill than uphill,"" said Patterson. UW men and women aiso won the team competition and the mixed team category was won _by Runners Choice of Guelph. The trophy for first university man went to Chris Rogers, who finished in 32: 36. Goodenough was actually the first university man but Rogers was honored to avoid duplication of trophies. A total of 135 runners started the race and there were 130 finishers. The race was sponsored by Transamerica Life and similar races are planned for Dalhousie, McGill and Winnipeg. Patterson, a secondâ€"year kinesiology student and sixthâ€"place finisher in the recent Mayâ€"Tenâ€" Kay, hadn‘t expected to win. *"*Tracey Robinson was here and she‘s better than I am," said Peterson. "I really expected Tracey to win." Peterson felt refreshed by the light showers Sunday morning and also liked the course, which was threeâ€"andâ€"threeâ€"quarter laps of UW‘s ring road. Richard O‘Brien Chroncile Staff Tracey Robinson of Guelph was one of the highlighted runners going into the race but UW student Janice Patterson was a surprise winner in the open women‘s grouping in a personal best time of 37: 01. The win gave UW two of the top individual finishes as Terry Goodenough, a Toronto Olympics club member and UW graduate student, won the open men‘s section in 30: 28. The favorite won in the open men‘s category of University of Waterioo‘s first annual 10 kilo metre road race but there was a bit of an upset in the open women‘s division.
