Together Michele and Keith Montgomery of Waterloo are the winners' of the 1985 Planned Parent Waterloo Region Volunteer of the Year Award. It's the first time a couple has won the award. which is given annually to recognize volunteer effort with the agency. A registered nurse, then new to this area, Michele first joined Planned Parenthood in late 1980, starting as a telephone answerer. Within six months she was a trained counsellor, and last year, Michele was chosen president of Planned Parenthood. She added that her experiences as the mother of a four-week old infant has coetfirmed those beliefs which initially drew her to Planned Parenthood; that people should go into parenthood knowing the consequences. One of the first things Michele had to learn was how to juggle her time, since shortly after joining Planned Parenthood she was hired by the Hospital for Sick Children. “it reaps tremendous rewards. but it's also an incredible commitment to another human being.
